Setting or Resetting Database Password
To set, reset or unset a database password in Access, you must first open the database "exclusively".
- Open Microsoft Access from your START menu or other shortcut without first opening your database
- On the menubar, click File, Open.
- In the dialog box, navigate to find the database and single click on the database name. Then click the arrow next to the Open button and choose Open Exclusive.
- Once the database is open, on the menubar, click Tools, Security, Set Database Password.
- In the Set Password dialog box, type the password you want.
- You must remember the password, because there's no way of recovering the password if you forget it, except to send your database to Microsoft for password recovery.
