Graduate Civil Engineer
Some of my responsibilities include: road reconstruction projects, storm water design, water distribution, sewers, land fills, and permitting for the various tasks listed. I enjoy the variety of tasks in this job such as seeing projects go from design to construction, and being involved with large municipal projects.
What are some related career opportunities and job titles in your company or in your career area?
There are many different directions that someone could take within the field of civil engineering. You could work for a private sector, within a town, within a state, or for the federal government. Each of these provides very different work environments.
What education or training did you have to prepare for this career?
I was educated at Northeastern University in the field of Civil Engineering. I was involved with the Co-op program, which relates work experience to the classroom by allowing the student to work as an intern within the field.
What education or training do you recommend for students today who want to enter this field?
Minimum of a bachelors degree with summer internships followed by a masters degree. It is also important to become involved with civil engineering student groups.
When you were in high school, did you know that you would enter this field?
Yes.
