Director of Marketing & Sales

I oversee the organization?s sales and marketing programs. I develop strategic sales and marketing objectives, establishes sales territories and quotas, manage budgets and evaluate sales performance. What I like best about my job is the opportunity to devise strategies that stand to impact the business? growth/welfare substantially. Additionally, I enjoy the back half of this experience which is evaluating/measuring the plans which have been implemented by my team.

What are some related career opportunities and job titles in your company or in your career area?

Job titles related to my current position include Marketing Manager, Sales Manager, Business Development Manager, and Strategy Manager. Related career opportunities run the gamut since they include any function within a company that is responsible for driving sales.

What education or training did you have to prepare for this career?

4 year college degree in Business Management and a sorted career path which exposed me to small, medium, and large business environments, across very different markets/products/services. The best training can?t be purchased...it must be sought out. The person must be working in an environment that affords the opportunity to be ambitious, at which point the individual can explore their build skills while exploring their strengths/interests.

What education or training do you recommend for students today who want to enter this field?

First, educate yourself on yourself. Learn what drives you emotionally and professionally; what are you good at...the fundamentals (directing with people, organizing information, numbers, creative, etc.) and then embark on a career path that seemingly fits your skills and goals. Once en route, continue checking in with yourself to ensure there?s alignment between your career and personal goals. So simple it?s elusive.

When you were in high school, did you know that you would enter this field?

No - In High School I was schlepping bags of mulch and wishing I had another $1,000 to buy a Ford Mustang GT. I had no idea what type of career I?d enter into after college.
