What education or training did you have to prepare for this career?

Self-taught accounting, took 1/4 course at Harvard Extension in Accounting. Completed 18 month certificate program in electronics 101 and Voc Ed, - actually taught high school electronics for a year. This electronic foundation enabled me to understand any type of digital or analog system and software that runs it. Industry training was a plus, manufacturer?s equipment and software training was a plus.

What education or training do you recommend for students today who want to enter this field?

Take a great course in Computer Programming from an institution such as edxonline.org who offers it for free with certificate and tech advisor and have that course drive what you need to know about math. Learn digital production skills with audio and video equipment for hands on versatility. Also - start a business - any kind of business and learn why it fails or might succeed. Try to do all this before you are 22.

When you were in high school, did you know that you would enter this field?

No - Had no idea. I didn?t have a clue but was recognized by peers as being a taste-maker when it came to music and audio electronics. I knew my stuff. Also, in high school I took mechanical drafting and art classes. Drafting taught me the manual method of using graphics software for design and how to approach design plans. Art helped me realize I wanted a sense of freedom when working for money.
