I practice the profession of optometry. I work in our own office doing visual analysis, treating eye disease and improving the visual skills of my patients.

What are some related career opportunities and job titles in your company or in your career area?

The job opportunities are many. Schools, industrial companies, hospitals, clinics all employ doctors of Optometry . Their work involves aiding in greater efficiency, safety and comfort for their patients.

What education or training did you have to prepare for this career?

Basic college education in the arts, sciences involving knowledge of social skills. I earned the O.D. (Doctor of Optometry) in three years through an accelerated program that was available in the 1940s.

What education or training do you recommend for students today who want to enter this field?

Start with basic college education in the arts, sciences involving knowledge of social skills. Optometry requires a Bachelors degree plus a four-year O.D. (Doctor of Optometry) degree program. The program is available at 15 colleges nationally, including the New England College of Optometry.

When you were in high school, did you know that you would enter this field?

Yes, in my senior year.
